ELM327 Bluetooth Setup Guide for Android Applications
2016-03-24 16:19:00Safety Warning: NEVER start and idle your engine inside of a closed garage. Always make sure there is good ventilation
to prevent carbon monoxide Poisoning.
1. Plug the ELM327 Scanner into your vehicle’s OBDII diagnostic port. The location will vary depending on car, but it’s usually
found on the driver’s side dashboard under the steering wheel.
2. Turn on your ignition. Depending on your car, you will need to turn the key to the 2nd turn to provide power to the ELM327
Scanner to detect the Bluetooth signal.
3. On your Android device, go to “Settings”, then “Wireless & Networks”, then “Bluetooth Settings”. Turn on Bluetooth if it’s not
already on. Scan for devices and pair with the OBDII device. If required, the password is 1234 (on rare occasion, it will be 0000).
4. Open your preferred app. I will use the Torque app as an example. Go to the Settings page by pressing the Menu button on
your device. Then go to “OBD2 Adapter Settings”, then “Choose Bluetooth Device”, and then select the paired OBD2
Scanner.
5. Go back to the App’s main menu and the app will begin establishing a connection with the scanner. All 4 icons will be solid
blue when it’s connected (Torque).
Troubleshooting Tips
Bluetooth Pairing Issues:
Unpair any existing Bluetooth devices such as a headset or stereo.
Make sure the App is not running in the background. Exit the App completely before pairing.
Double check the password to make sure it's correct. If "1234" does not work, "0000".
Turn off Bluetooth, then turn back on and rescan for the device.
Reboot your phone and try again.
App Connection Issues:
Make sure the paired OBD2 scanner is selected within the app’s settings if it won’t connect.
Restart the Application (exit and relaunch).
